Beyond Recovery to Recovered
We believe that, while a 12 Step Program works beautifully for some, it only goes so far.
For those wanting to take their recovery to a deeper level, beyond the notion that a person cannot ever completely recover from an addiction or are powerless over it, we offer an alternative model of self-empowerment.
Living from a powerless place creates constant fear of taking the first drink/drug. Fear that you will always relapse; that you are stuck in your past, reliving old patterns. You are a victim living in perpetual hypervigilance.
Fear might be a motivator in early recovery but often proves to be ineffective in the long term.
Neuroscience supports that prolonged fear and stress hinders recovery and limits human potential. Staying stuck in an unhealed "addictive brain" keeps your life stuck.
12 Step Programs are a disease model. They don't address the science of mind/body connection or focus on the underlying issues, the trauma that manifested in addictiveness. The Program, and most of the addiction treatment industry, is based on symptom management.
We are not anti-12 Step.
We endorse whatever support system will help a person's recovery process. Support groups provide community which most everyone needs when struggling with addiction. However, we help our clients find the ongoing support that will best suit their needs, including 12 step as a possibility. We facilitate 12 Step meetings if requested, and also provide alternatives.
Recovery vs. Recovered
Being in “Recovery” implies you are powerless and are never fully whole or healed. You are always defined by a disease or diagnosis, never completely free from your past.
Being “Recovered” means you chose to not drink or use drugs because you don’t want to. You want to fully participate in your life and build a future. Being "Recovered," you identified and healed your underlying issues and are no longer stalked by a label or diagnosis. You no longer feel like a victim living in fear of something that has power over you and you no longer identify who you are by your addiction or your past.
Being recovered you are free.
Your life matters. It's time to start your journey of discovery and recovered NOW.
You deserve it.
